Patrick has been a faculty member at the University of Guelph since 1974 (Assistant Professor, 1974; Associate Professor, 1978; Professor, 1984). He was also Professor (1993) of Collaborative International Development, and was Director (2002), Axelrod Institute of Ichthyology. The University Senate elected him University Professor Emeritus, and it was conferred at convocation (2006) by The Honorable LM Alexander, Chancellor. Selected research awards before 1974 include: MRC Post-Doctoral Fellow and Ballard Fellow at Ontario Veterinary College, Canada; FAO Andre Mayer Research Fellow at East African Trypanosomiasis Research Organization, Uganda and at Serengeti Research Institute, Tanzania; and IDRC Consultant and Visiting Scientist at Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research, Nigeria.Selected external appointments and initiatives from 1974 to 2017 include: NUS Research Professor, National University of Singapore, Singapore; CNPq Scholar, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janerio, Brazil; MEC Research Fellow, Instituto de Acuicultura de Torre de la Sal, Spain; and Research Fellow, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia. Patrick has also undertaken short-term appointments as Visiting Professor at seven universities and as Visiting Scientist at 5 research institutes/universities.Patrick has acted as an assessor/examiner for: three academic programmes; 15 appointment/promotion exercises; and 19 PhD theses. He has also undertaken consultancies for industry, universities and government agencies.Patrick’s research publications number 198 papers, 33 invited reviews and 53 abstracts. He has acted as editor for 12 books, three journals and one special journal issue.Patrick is Founding Treasurer and Trustee of the Zoological Education Trust, and Founder of The Roy Anderson Memorial Lecture in Parasitology. He is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, UK and a professional member of The New York Academy of Sciences, USA. Patrick has delivered 18 plenary/keynote addresses and 32 symposium lectures at conferences, and is a recipient of The Robert Wardle Award for contributions to Parasitology.
