Editorial board: Animal Science Cases

Heidi works for Anpario plc, a UK-specialized animal feed additive company as their Global Technical Services Manager. Heidi completed her degree in Zoology at the University of Leeds and joined the technical team at AB Agri Ltd as a Commercial Nutrition Graduate. She later progressed from General Nutritionist with ABN (a division of AB Agri) to the Technical Project Manager for the Alternative Proteins division, which is when she started looking at novel feed ingredients such as insects. 

Heidi has always had an interest in gut health, and this led her to her current role as Global Technical Services Manager for Anpario Plc. She has also co-edited a book titled ‘Insects as Animal Feed’, published by CABI in 2022, which looks to update the feed industry on the potential for these novel products.  

Heidi is a Nuffield Farming Scholar (2019), her scholarship focused on factors affecting gut health in monogastric, mainly pigs, and how we can rear pigs to reduce the need for medication. Heidi is also involved in the UK Insect Industry (IIUK) and the Nuffield Pig Group. She is a member of the British Society of Animal Science and holds a FAR accreditation for Swine and Ruminant with the Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC). 

Stephen is a British Society of Animal Science accredited Animal Scientist (R.Anim.Sci) and is presently a Senior Lecturer in Animal Science and Bioinformatics at Harper Adams University (UK).  

Stephen holds an Honors Degree in Agriculture and a PhD in pig gut health and nutrition, working both in academia and in the industry to improve knowledge and applications for the animal and veterinary sectors. He is a Chartered Scientist (CSci), Chartered Biologist (CBiol), Member of the Royal Society of Biology (MRSB), and an Advance HE Senior Fellow (SFHEA).
